Accessibility

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard named in the ADA Title II rule for state and local government websites.

What's built in

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach, and the focused item always has a visible outline.
  • Headings, landmarks, and labels are marked up so screen readers can move through each page by section.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG contrast minimums, and pages reflow without sideways scrolling down to 320 pixels wide and at 400% zoom.
  • Both videos wait for you to press play, start at a low volume, and have standard controls to pause, scrub, and change volume.
  • The videos have instrumental music and no narration. Each one has a captions track, an audio description you can turn on to hear the on-screen text read aloud, and a full text transcript right below it.
  • The example chats on the Claude page announce each new step to screen readers, and the example tabs work with the arrow keys.
  • Motion is kept to a minimum and turns off if your device is set to reduce motion.

Reading options

Every page has a Reading options button in the bottom-left corner. It's the round button with the person icon, and it's also the second thing you reach with the Tab key. You can open or close it from anywhere with Alt + Shift + A.

  • Text size: 125%, 150%, or 200%.
  • Font: sans-serif, serif, or OpenDyslexic, a typeface designed for readers with dyslexia.
  • Text spacing: wider or widest spacing between lines, letters, and words.
  • Color and contrast: dark mode, high contrast (yellow and white on black), inverted colors, or grayscale.
  • Highlight: outline links, headings, buttons and fields, or all of them.
  • Reading focus: a bold focus ring, a reading guide that follows your pointer, or a reading mask that dims everything except the line you're reading.
  • Switches: big cursor, stop motion, mute videos, hide images, and image descriptions on hover.
  • Page map: a list of every heading, landmark, and link on the page. Choose one to jump straight to it.

Your choices are saved in a cookie and in your browser's storage on this device, so they follow you to every page on this site and are still there when you come back. Nothing is sent anywhere. Choose Reset all to clear them.

Known limits

  • Audio description is a recorded, computer-generated voice, so it sounds the same on every device. While it speaks, the music gets quieter, and the video pauses if a description needs more time. If a recording can't load, your browser's built-in voice reads the text instead, and the transcript always has the same information.
  • The Claude and Gemini screens shown on these pages are recreations for training. The real products are run by Google and Anthropic, and their accessibility is outside this site's control.
